Meta Launches Roll out of End-To-End Encryption by Default on Messenger Meta has finally completed a nearly five-year-long project to roll out end-to-end encryption (E2E) as the default in Messenger.

This update addresses privacy concerns and ensures that messages and calls are protected from the sender's device to the recipient's device. As a result, no one, not even Meta, can access the content.

This move aligns Messenger more closely with WhatsApp and is part of Meta's plan to integrate messaging tools for cross-app communication. 

The update also brings new features like message editing, disappearing messages that last for 24 hours, improved read receipt controls, and enhanced visual display options. However, the shift towards encryption has faced scrutiny due to concerns about potential misuse and hindrance to law enforcement efforts.

 

Meta Adds More Generative AI Elements, Including Post Prompts and Image Creation In-Stream Meta has recently announced new generative AI features for the holidays. 

These features include visual creation options, AI post prompts, and virtual characters which are now more widely available. 

Hobbyists can now use the "Imagine" text-to-image tool on imagine.meta.com, which enables them to generate images using Meta's evolving systems. Users can refine custom visuals in-stream and use the "Reimagine" functionality to create new variations of AI images in chats. Furthermore, Meta is now offering chat personas of celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Tom Brady to more users. AI systems can now highlight Reels in a chat and provide contextual options for conversations. 

Additionally, Meta is testing AI tools for creative composition, such as converting images from landscape to portrait orientation. To ensure greater transparency, the company is adding safeguard elements like invisible watermarking and continuously testing AI systems to mitigate "risky outputs." Despite concerns about reducing human input, Meta aims to incorporate more generative AI across Facebook and Instagram.

Users can interact with these tools in Messenger, WhatsApp, or IG Direct by selecting "Create an AI chat" in chat options or typing "@MetaAI" in a group chat followed by the assistant's assistance request.Instagram Launches new 'Close Friends Only' Podcast to Showcase Celebrity Users Instagram has recently launched a podcast called "Close Friends Only," featuring celebrities like Ice Spice and Doja Cat discussing culture, memes, fashion, and more. Instagram is testing a new " Hype " feature in Stories to boost interaction.Users can post comments visible to others on the Story. This move aligns with Instagram's focus on increasing direct engagement tools, recognizing the shift toward more Stories and DM usage over the main feed.

The platform has introduced various features, including Collaborative Posts and Close Friends sharing, to encourage original content sharing and maintain user engagement. Expect Instagram to continue testing additional engagement options to enhance user interaction.
